For Nepali students aspiring to study or work in Japan, achieving proficiency in the Japanese language is essential. Various language proficiency exams, such as NAT, JLPT, JLCT, and others, are conducted in Nepal to assess students’ language skills and enhance their opportunities for education and employment in Japan.
1. Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)
The JLPT (日本語能力試験) is the most widely recognized Japanese language test worldwide. Conducted twice a year (July and December) by the Japan Foundation, it has five levels (N5 to N1), with N1 being the most advanced. Many Japanese universities and employers require a minimum of N4 or N3 for admission or work.
2. NAT-Test
The NAT-Test (日本語NAT-TEST) is an alternative to the JLPT and is conducted six times a year in Nepal. It follows a similar structure with five levels (N5 to N1) and is widely accepted by Japanese language schools and employers. Many students take the NAT-Test as it provides more frequent exam dates and quicker results.
3. Japanese Language Capability Test (JLCT)
The JLCT (Japanese Language Capability Test) is another proficiency exam designed to assess practical Japanese communication skills. It is held five times a year and is useful for those seeking employment or study opportunities in Japan under programs like the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa.
